Traffic and Parking

Parking is hard to come by in central Åre during the World Championships. If you will be arriving by car, please check if your accommodation includes parking space. We recommend that you use public transportation to get around (see Bus Timetables).

Åre Torg (town square) will be closed off for unauthorized vehicles during the Championships. All residents and shop keepers/restaurant owners etc within the closed off perimeter will receive permits to be able to get in and out. The same information is valid for Åre Park/Medals Plaza.

We hope that most of our visitors will use public transportation to get to Åre. Information about the areas

Duved and Tegefjäll are located west of Åre and you can easily move between the two as the ski systems are linked. The ski buses run regularly during the season to and from Åre town. Björnen is located five kilometers south of Åre. It is easy to get from Björnen to Åre and the Swedish National Arena either via the ski system or by ski bus. The Åre ski pass is valid in all mentioned skiing areas.

Storlien is located circa one hour's drive west of Åre and is easily accessed via E14. Vålådalen is located circa 30 minutes from Åre on the other side of Lake Åre. Its neighbors Trillevallen and Edsåsdalen are both located circa 25 minutes from Åre. All the areas offer great accommodation in lovely rural surroundings.

Travel to Åre


By train

Taking the train to Åre is a comfortable and sustainable way to travel. Various train companies operate services to Åre from Sundsvall, Östersund or Trondheim as well as from most other Swedish or Norwegian cities and the train stops right in the heart of Åre. All the Championships arenas are within walking distance of the train station.  All connections can be booked through the Swedish National Railway’s (SJ) homepage and you can also book your transfer from Trondheim Airport via the website or by using the booking form to the right. By air

Åre/Östersund Airport

The Åre/Östersund Airport (OSD) is the closest airport to Åre, located 11 kilometers from downtown Östersund and 86 kilometers from Åre. Trondheim Airport/Vaernes (Norway)

The Trondheim Airport (TRD) is called Vaernes and it is located 135 kilometers from Åre.
